La gran aventura a ACM
Después de nuestro corto entrenamiento de aproxiamadamente 1 mes, el 24 de Octubre Félix, Andrei y yo fuimos a un concurso de programación que se llevó a cabo de una tal “Universidad Lucerna”, lo tomaríamos como práctica para el concurso de ACM (International Collegiate Programming Contest) que sería una semana después. Obtuvimos el 2ndo lugar, después de los ya conocidos y admirados ESCOM56 (Equipo conformado por Enrique Lira, Rodrigo Nieves y Gilberto Stankiewicz).
Estábamos un tanto preocupados, debido a que la fecha límite de pago para el concurso de ACM era el 28 de Octubre… llegó ese día y aun no lográbamos convencer a nuestro querido Tecnológico de Monterrey de que nos pagara al menos la inscripción ($1800). Pensábamos que ya no iríamos, aunque yo por mi parte estaba aliviado pensando “Al menos podré estudiar cálculo y hacer los mil proyectos que tengo para el lunes”, sin embargo al poco rato una oportunidad se presentó, el papá de Andrei podía pagar la inscripción.
Corrimos a registrarnos en el sitio web de ACM, sólo para descubrir que ya no había cupo en la sede principal de Querétaro, por lo tanto decidimos ir a Puebla. Registramos a Bruce Wayne como coach, ya que no teníamos.
Llegó el Sábado y nos vimos en la Terminal de Autobuses de Pasajeros de Oriente (TAPO) como habíamos acordado. Hicimos aproximadamente dos horas de camino a Puebla, las cuales pasé leyendo un poco sobre Grafos. Tomamos un taxi que habría de llevarnos al hotel Fiesta Americana más cercano al Tec de Monterrey Campus Puebla (sede de acm).
Llegamos al Fiesta Americana, donde supuestamente teníamos reservación, pero oh sorpresa, aparentemente no había reservación, y tampoco tenían cuartos. Así, decidimos ir al tec campus puebla, con todo y nuestro equipaje, a ver si ya estaban las personas organizadoras para ver qué había pasado con el hotel.
En el camino comenzó a llover, y yo no podía cerrar mi mochila (las targus se mueren del cierre después de dos años, aparentemente). Llegamos y no había nadie, no teníamos la menor idea de dónde sería el concurso así que recorrimos todo el campus (que es muy pequeño, por cierto). No habíamos comido, así que tuvimos que conformarnos que comida de máquina dispensadora (que estaba más cara que en el cem) y un three-pack de Hershey’s que mi madre me había dado.
Investigamos con los policías de la entrada la ubicación del concurso y nos dirijimos ahí, no había nadie. Esperamos, nos moríamos de frío, hasta que empezó a llegar el comité organizador, que nos invitó a pasar a un laboratorio de cómputo para evitar el frío. Vimos lo del hotel, y Andrei recordó que su papá había hecho reservaciones en el NH, “por si las dudas”, así que ya no hubo problema. Eran las 6pm y aún no habíamos comido decentemente, así que fuimos al Domino’s que estaba frente al tec, no nos importó perdernos parte de la inauguración.
Regresamos, y probamos los equipos, al probar el PC^2 descubrimos que las cuentas de juez no tenían passwords muy inteligentes que digamos.
Terminó la sesión de práctica y nos dieron unas tortas raras que no me gustaron. Posteriormente nos fuimos en taxi al hotel NH, que estaba en el centro.
Al día siguiente nos levantamos temprano para ir a desayunar, Félix y yo decidimos esconder la blackberry de Andrei en la caja fuerte, ya que había desarrollado una especie de adicción, y Félix siempre se enojaba porque a él no le habían dado blackberry (sí, el tec regaló blackberrys a principios del semestre).
Fuimos a desayunar, y cuando regresamos escuchamos un sonido extraño, era música, era la blackberry llamando a su dueño, desde la caja fuerte, eso fue muy freakeante.
Llegamos al tec, y empezó el concurso. Leímos los problemas, muchos parecían triviales, a excepción de las entradas. Elegí hacer uno, pero le dije a Félix que no sabía leer la entrada, a lo que me dijo: “no te preocupes, yo hago leer(), tú concentrate en el problema”, lo hice en papel, funcionaba, Félix intentó implementar la lectura de entrada, teníamos poco tiempo, pero la presión nos ganó y decidimos abandonarlo. Para esto, ya teníamos 2 soluciones correctas, y 3 posibles, una que estaba haciendo Andrei (que también tenía problemas con las entradas), la que yo estaba haciendo, y una que hizo Félix y la mandó en los últimos 10 minutos (que aparentemente no fue correcta debido a que Félix olvidó implementarle una poda). Al final terminamos con 2 programas correctos, poniéndonos en primer lugar en la sede, aparentemente.
Nos fuimos a comer, esperábamos que la solución de Félix fuera correcta para así tener 3 problemas resueltos, sin embargo, Félix recordó que no había implementado la poda, así que murieron nuestras esperanzas de tener otro problema resuelto.
En la clausura descubrimos que otro equipo sí había hecho 3 problemas, por lo que estabamos en segundo lugar de la sede, y las posiciones nacionales aún no estaban listas (ni lo están, actualmente).
Al terminar, intentamos llegar a la terminal de autobuses en camión, pero aparentemente nos pasamos, no había problema, teníamos la seguridad de traer el GPS de la blackberry de Andrei, por lo que no podíamos perdernos. Total, llegamos en taxi a la terminal como a las 6pm, no tuvimos que esperar mucho a que saliera el autobus, pero hicimos como 3 horas y media a México. Mientras tanto, nos entreteníamos con el GPS de la blackberry y viendo una película muy fumada llamda Mimzy, también intentaba estudiar cálculo, ya que sabía que no dormiría esa noche, tenía dos proyectos y un examen al día siguiente.
